Your Line-up

Since there is not very much news concerning the Milwaukee Brewers right now, I thought it would be a good time to discuss the batting order to start the season. There are two stipulations we'll have: 1) Don't worry about assigning specific positions. It's not important for this to decide if Braun is playing LF, RF, or 3B...just where he's batting. 2) Use current Brewers, not anyone you're hoping gets signed.

Post your line-ups!!!

To get it started, here's what I have:

1) Rickie Weeks
2) J.J. Hardy
3) Prince Fielder
4) Ryan Braun
5) Corey Hart
6) Bill Hall
7) Gabe Gross / Gabe Kapler
8) Jason Kendall
9) Pitcher Spot

I'll explain why when we get some posts on this one. Start posting!

Add in Tony Gwynn to the Kapler/Gross Discussion as I would be shocked to see the crew carry less than 5 outfielders and frankly I don't think anyone can suggest that any of the three have a lock on the starting position

All right...let's get a little more specific here:

Who do you want in the leadoff spot and why?

Fielder or Braun in the 3rd spot?

I like Gwynn better than Weeks, in the leadoff spot, I think he has a little bit more pure speed, and I think he is ready. Weeks has a tad bit more pop in his bat and could be used in a situation where he could advance runners. Gwynn also takes pitchers deeper into counts which is what you want in a leadoff batter.

I know I said Fielder in the 3 spot on my own, but I am going to change my mind and put Braun there instead. If Braun can have a better average again, he should be in the three. When you have a guy that can hit for both power and average in the three slot, it makes it a better way to continue the inning. Fielder in the four means he can come up with two outs and clear the bases more often. Either one in either slot will work okay however.

Gross has a much higher OBP and showed that he has plenty of pop to take that two spot. When you put in Gwynn or Kapler you move to the 7. JJ is very good and can handle the two spot, but is too prone to the groundball and is slower than molasses.

Weeks showed in the 2nd half last year that he can get on base. Kendall in the 2 hole makes sense to me because he can bunt, hit+run, and hit with 2 strikes allowing Rickie to steal some bases. Kendall having lasik done this off season cant hurt his chances of getting back to his career norms. I think the rest of the lineup sets itsself
